I have promised myself not to neglect my blog any further!! there is no excuse with so much technology around so here i am back again. There is as always so much going on here in Kerry.
At The Sewing Shed we are well into autumn classes with Christmas classes on the horizon.
I have started a 2 year course to become a quilt judge..very exciting! So full steam ahead...

Killarney

This week, when all the snow had finally gone I met with my two good friends in Killarney ( sherry nugent and Terri Mcneil from
http://www.irishquilting.ie/) . We had a nice chatter, and one of the sujects was face book! Sherry showed me her new phone, which she then downloaded facebook onto, after announcing her New Years resolution was to be more active with social networking!!
As you can see here, they are completley engrossed in their phones....technology where would we be without it..happy new year!

mors bags

Our latest venture has been making mors bags, recycled fabrics sewn into bags to use for shopping or whatever you like using bags for...these are what some of the girls have made so far..www.morsbags.com to download free instructions and find out more.
All the bags we make are going to be given away at the Malton Chricstmas Craft fair in Killarney on the 28th November, at the Irish patchwork society table....

This is a very old piece of patchwork, it was sewn by a young girl on her voyage to Austrlia in the 1800's . There is a very beautiful love story attatched to it. My friend Jillian has lent this to me. it will be part of an exhibition in June 2012, of antique quilts. During The international quilt festival Of Ireland .

Jewellery for a change

This week Marie Williams held a Jewellery workshop At The Sewing Shed studio. It was a great success and everyone enjoyed it. They all finished a fab necklace and pair of earings. Pictured here is Sarahs finished piece. Personally i could not resist the lovely pink and pale blue coloured beads and shells.Mmmmmmm.

Maries next workshop is going to be 10 th April.

It seems everyone is starting to come out of hibernation after the spell of bad wether, come on everyone wakey wakey, I know some of you are feeling slow to start, due to the current economic climate...we wont say the R word, but come on face facts. We can always cheer ourselves up with a bit (or alot of sewing) So if you are not doing a class, sign up for one. If thats not possible arrange a few sewing sessions with a friend. it will work I can promise you. Pictured here is the quilt that I am trying to finish before the 12TH Feb. If anyone is now feeling inpired, then I have a Jelly Roll workshop on Sat 27th Feb from 10 till 4 PM...roll on.....

Last week we started the Christmas classes, with great success. The Christmas table runner proving to be very popular. Here you can see Rochelle, Patricia and Carmel working hard to finish there table runners at a one day workshop.

Other workshops have been Santa snuggle quilt and the Bethlehem wall hanging.

I hope you are all stitching away for Christmas presents. I hope to add a free pattern next week to make Christmas coasters.

I loved these blocks that Anne brought to show me this week. She started them 20 years ago and has now decided to finish them. They are made from old skirts that she had at the time, but very high quality cotton. She used hexagon templates to piece them.

Autumn arrives, leaves falling and evenings drawing in. Smoke whirls from chimney pots and we are all set for our exciting new term. There are plenty of students this time round, new faces and many well known faces return.

Friday the 14 th of August we had a log cabin workshop. it was a great day. Some attepted all the variations on log cabin, such as hexagon , diamond, triangle, folded, off side. Others just stuck to one variation. There was an array of different colour schemes and ideas. Martina made a lovely bag with a couple of samples that she completed.
It has been a hectic week, with trying to get everything ready for THE CELTIC ZODIAC, which is to appear as a series in Irish Quilting Magazine. The first one comes out in November. There will be a wallhanging for each zodiac sign and the option to make a block for each sign to make into a quilt. Its all working out well so far, so you can all look forward to that starting in the 1st aniversary edition of Irish Quilting.

Yesterday we had the opportunity to be filmed by R.T.E. It is for a programme called nationwide, which is on three times a week. it was an interesting day, have a look at some of the pictures. Sarah and Jillian in our mock class. Asking Romi questions. Me in front of the camera. Marie and Martin.

Here are some photos of my hand dyed fabric drying on the line and neatly folded, i have prpared them for a special project...watch this space. Also we had a workshop today with Romi. Making jackets . It was great, especially as i got to take part. The rest of the pics are from today.

Its the end of another week besides driving 500 miles just on lifts for my children in 5 days, we have as usual had a busy week.

Wednesday was the Ciar quilters meeting in Tralee, we had a look at each others work and lovely tea and crusty bread sandwiches....thanks Sheila. Breada was busy on her machine ,while some of us did some hand stitching.

Thurday we had our sit and sew, lots of poeple away but there was still a handfull of us. Friday was a P.I.T day( projects in turmoil. ) Jillian finished a quilt and Sharon finished a border that she had a mental block about.

Today Sunday, Jan and I went to Dingle to the agri show. We had a craft table, it was a great day and while we did not become rich with our sales , we met lots of people while we tried to resist chips and ice cream boats....mmmm. The picture isof Jan stitching her hexagons.

Today we had a thread painting workshop, we had a great day and everyone finished at least one beautiful piece of work .

busy busy busy....thursday sit and sew, hexagons, ragedy edge, foundation piecing and a celtic quilt were projects being worked on..great variety. Friday P.I.T day-projects in turmoil. Jillian made two quilts from one and Rita got her quilt layered up. Jan and I finally got the kit finished. Simply Celtic ....i gonna try put up a picture of it soooonnn. looking good. Sat i went swimming and nothing else as was toooo tired. Sunday i bought two patchwork magazines. I started a new bag and hand sttched two cards..... Monday - today consisted of paperwork and dealing with teanagers..... tomorow...mmmm playing with eoin and oisin and i might sneek a bit of sewing, for a change. byeeee

i still havnt worked out how to acsess the blog page ...if you are not me
I had a meeting at our patchwork group today the Ciar quilters, we meet in tralee twice a month.
i managed to finish the binding on two quilts. Rita had forgotton her sewing so she finished my ragedy edge, while I finished the celtic quilt.
Jan is still hexagon mad, Breada sewing strips for a hand project tto carry on holiday, Sheila and Mary were tacking a quilt and Eily was hand quilting.
By the time I had gathered and collected the boys, shopped, cooked, cleaned , taxied, bathed babies, my good intentions of sewing went out of the window... mmmmm do you know that feeling. well tomorow is another day..godnight,

This is just great, my first ever blog......
My tuesday night class has just finished, THEY ALL CREATED THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WORK.
I suppose it will take a while to work out how to use this......
